Buddhist Gompas
Gompa simply means vihara which is are centre of monasteries, nunneries and educational institution where Buddhist monks get education; meditate. They are situated in Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh. Their designs and interior deviates from region to region, however they are the major points for prayer. Sometimes Buddhist Gompas are associated with large number of stupa. The sitting place and aspect of the architectural constructions, satellite buildings and ground are established on the basis of ancient principles of geodesic lore and environmental Meta physics. |

Lamayuru Gompa - It is one of the best locations for exploration of Buddhist tradition, situated 15 km east of the Fatu La on the Srinagar-Leh highway. The red-hat section of Buddhism lives here, right now only 30 to 50 Lamas live here. Masked- Dancing is celebrated twice a year according to the Tibetan calendar. According to ancient legend, Shakyamuni (Historical Buddha) had stayed some time in Lamayuru Gompa. In this way the place is emerges as a hub of Buddhist Destination. Tabo Gompa - It is situated 46 km away from Lahaul and Spiti in Himachal Pradesh. The Gompa is located at an altitude of 3280 meter surrounded by lofty Brown hills, built in 996. It is one of the largest monastery complexes in Spiti valley, also known as Tabo-Chos-Khor, which means ‘Doctrinal circle’. Tabo Gompa includes 9 temples, 23 chortens, and a monk’s chamber. The exquisite sculptures, stucco images, and wall paintings of the monastery are parallel to the paintings of Ajanta-Ellora caves in Maharastra. GRL Gompa - It is situated in the west Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh, built by the 12th incarnate of Tsonga Gontse Rinpoche in 1965-66. It is the administrative headquarter of all Gompas situated in West Kameng District, similar to the Tsona Gontse Monastery, at Tsona in South Tibet. |
