Shey Gompa
Located at a distance of 15 km to the South of Leh town, Shey Gompa is built under the leadership of King Deldon Namgyal from getting inspiration from his father in 1655. The major attraction inside the monastery is the huge Buddha Sakyamuni, adorned with Copper Sheets and glided with gold, which is regarded as the biggest metal statue and the second largest Buddha statue in the Ladakh region. The Gompa contains sacrificial offerings for instance grain, jewels, holy signs and mantra where as the upper part of the Shey Gompa includes a collection of enchanting wall painting. |

The Temple of Shakyamuni Shey’s Ancient Monument Shey Oracle- He is the central figure in the monastery and viewed as equivalent to god. During the August harvest festival, the Shey Oracle walks around the whole village on horse and prophesies the future. Shey Festivity- The Shey Management of monastery organizes Metukba Festival in July praying the well being of all life across the world. The best time to pay visit is between 7 to 9 am and 5 to 6 pm when prayer is started by the monks. |
