Periyar
Situated in the Western Ghat of Indian Peninsula, it is one the most visited wild life sanctuary in God’s own country Kerala. It has picturesque lake at the heart of sanctuary. The protected area covers an area of 925 square km, out of which 350sq. km part of the core zone was made into the Periyar national park and Tiger Reserve. |

are surrounded by the water bodies, heavy shrubs and mud which boast off wild vegetation and animal life. Some of the deeper valley contains tropical evergreen forest with extremely thick tree that even bright sunlight finds hard to penetrate. The trees have caught the amazing height of 130-140 feet Due to lush green environment of the park; it is the ideal home for tigers, elephants, leopards, gaur, the Lion-tailed macaque, the Nilgiri langur, the Malabar giant squirrel, porqupine, wild dog, sloth bear, jungle cat, sambar, palm civet, wild boar and jackal. The parks also boasts of some endangered birds like Darters, Cormorants, Kingfishers, the great Malabar hornbill and racket tailed Drongoes. The reptilian population can be found basking in the sun near the lakeshore that includes Python and cobra.
