Badrinath Tourism

With the majestic Neelkanth Mountain on the backdrop of the town, it has derived its name from the word ‘badris or wild berries’. There are many temples established here symbolizing the Hindu Lord Vishnu. The present temple was established by ancient philosopher and religious guru Shankaracharya reflecting Dravidian architecture. It is 15 meter tall with conical structure and containing more than 15 idols of different Hindu gods. The prime idol is the idol of Lord Vishnu, sculpted in black stone, representing Him in meditating posture. The temple looks clean and enchanting due to colorful main entrance. It is divide into three parts- Grabha Griha (the sanctum sanctorum), Darshan Mandap (for puja) and Shobha Mandap ( for devotees to assemble).

Apart from the main temple, Yogadhyan, Bhavisya, Bridha or Old and Adi Badri are the other major temples which can be visited. There are other pilgrimage attractions such as: Tapt Kund, Hemkund sahib, Brahma Kapal, Neelkhand, Mana Village, Mata Murti Te mple,Alkapuri, Satopanth, Joshimath, Punch Prayag, Deo Prayag, Rudra Prayag, Karn Prayag, Vishnu Prayag, and Srinagar which are emerged as fantastic pilgrimage destination for the persons who seek peace and solace.

Badrinath is well connected through road, rail and air transportation. Jolly Grant is the nearest airport and Risikesh is the nearest railway station. It is also connected to other major hill stations such as: Rishikesh, Hardware, Dehradun and Kotdwar through Road.
