Ahmedabad the capital city, Surat, Baroda and Rajkot are the major cities of the state. These cities epitomize the best of tradition, history, architecture and culture of the state. Gujarat is at its liveliest during the festival of Navratri, a cultural dance spanning nine days. There are also several well-known museums that provide a glimpse into the state’s rich cultural and historical heritage. Some of them are the Calico Textile Museum, Sardar Patel Museum, Vadodara Museum and the Kutchh Museum. The combined influences of Hinduism, Islam and European architecture have created temples and forts that are at their grandest best. The Bhandra Fort and the Teen Darwaja are visited for their architectural splendor. The Vijay Vilas Palace, Aina Mahal and Prag Mahal and the Lakhota Fort, Pavagadh Fort, Panchmahal District and the Uparkot Fort are other important historical sites. |
