Lakshadweep Tourism
Lakshadweep is one of the smallest union territories of India, situated 200-400km far from Kerla, in Arabian Sea. It consists of 36 Main Island with an area 32 sq.km. It is notable for its lush green landscape, incredible marine life , soft silvery beaches and water sports.. Till five decades before it was an unexplored tourist destination. But after 1972, it emerged as a hub of adventure and beach tourism. Even today, its ninety percent population resides in ten percent of the total area of Island. |
The island boasts of coral reefs which are the major attractions of beach tourism. With its large costal area, it emerges as one of the largest water adventure destinations in India. Understanding the potential of water sports, the Lakshadweep tourism board has opened water sports institution of Kamat Island which offers facilities such as scuba diving, canoeing, kayaking, water skiing, yachting, snorkeling, wind surfing etc. There are many architectural tourist destinations in the Island such as: The tomb of Hazrat Ubaidula, Mosque of Kavaratti, Kavaratti Aquarium, Buddhist archeological Museum and the Tuna Canning factory. Between October to April is the best time to visit Lakshadweep and the weather remains cool and pleasant. |
