Pondicherry(earlier Puducherry) oris one of the largest Unions Territory of India, derived its name from Tamil vernacular which means ‘new land’. Once it was French colony of India and the influence of French settlement can be seen in its buildings. The Territory includes four disconnected settlements of Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam, situated in the Bay of Bengal.
The Botanical garden is notable for its unusual specimen of plants.
