It is said that Gautam Buddha has spent his life luxuriously as a Prince of Kapilvastu state. At the age of sixteen he married with Yashodhra who gave birth to a son named Rahul. But soon he fed up with the sorrows of life and left home at the age of 29 to search the true meaning of life, and this event is known as the Great Departure in Buddhist text.
After leaving palace, he lived and search for essence of human life for six years. At last he sat under the tree, known as Bodhi tree, to meditate at Bodhgaya. It is said that he remained in sitting position for 24 days and finally, he attained Enlightenment and got his new name Buddha or Gautam Buddha. The state of meditation is known as Set of wheels of law of motion.
Now he started delivering speeches all over India for 45 years. His first religious speech is said to be delivered at Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh. He visited all over India to tell people about the true meaning of life. He passed away in 483 B.C. at the age of 80 years. After his death, he achieved Nirvana, the absolute state of life or escaping from cycle of birth and death. |
